London Design Events 2026: The GJ Interior Design Studio Guide to What’s Worth Seeing This September
From Focus/26 at Chelsea Harbour and Open House London to the wider London Design Festival, including Shoreditch Design Week, our considered edit of the exhibitions, showrooms, launches, architecture and emerging names worth making time for.
Every September, London becomes a meeting point for the international design community.
For nine days, the city shifts into a network of exhibitions, showroom launches, installations, conversations and new collections — stretching from Chelsea Harbour to Shoreditch and across London's established design districts.
London Design Festival returns from 12–20 September 2026, bringing together established design houses, emerging studios, makers and material innovators from around the world. Alongside it, Focus/26 takes over Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour, while Shoreditch Design Week brings a distinctly different energy to East London.
With so much happening simultaneously, deciding what is genuinely worth seeing can be more difficult than finding something to see.
This is our considered edit of London Design Festival 2026 — where we're going, what we're watching and the places we believe deserve a little more time.
Understanding London Design Festival
London Design Festival is the wider city-wide festival, running 12–20 September 2026. Its official programme spans installations, showrooms, product launches, talks, workshops and trade/consumer events. The 2026 programme currently identifies 11 design districts, including Brompton, Mayfair, Chelsea, Bankside, Soho and Shoreditch Design Week.

London Design Festival: our wider edit
Beyond the major design destinations, London Design Festival unfolds across the city through a programme of exhibitions, installations, showroom presentations and conversations. With so much taking place simultaneously, the challenge is less about finding something to see and more about deciding where to spend your time.
Rather than attempting to cover everything, we've selected six events that have caught our attention for 2026 — each offering a different perspective on materiality, craftsmanship, colour and contemporary living.
GJ’s Curated Selection for London Design Festival
Boffi | DePadova
What: The 2026 Collections
Where: Brompton Design District, 72–74 Sloane Avenue, SW3 3DZ
Why: A significant year for Boffi | DePadova, marking 70 years of De Padova and 40 years of Piero Lissoni's art direction. The London showroom will present its 2026 novelties, including the new XPL kitchen by Piero Lissoni, alongside the latest De Padova and ADL collections.
The GJ Edit: Look beyond individual pieces and pay attention to how materials, joinery and lighting are layered across the complete interior.
USM Record Shop
What: An immersive record shop exploring music, design and USM’s modular furniture.
Where: USM, 12 Cramer Street, Marylebone, London, W1U 4EA
Why: A chance to experience USM’s modular furniture beyond conventional storage, exploring how its adaptable system can integrate audio, display and everyday living within a considered interior.
GJ Edit: Look beyond the individual pieces to the flexibility of the system — how furniture can evolve with changing needs while maintaining architectural clarity and a lasting design language.
B&B Italia
What: The 2026 Collection
Where: Brompton Design District, 250 Brompton Road, SW3 2AS
Why: Few brands have influenced contemporary Italian furniture quite like B&B Italia. Its 2026 collection offers an opportunity to experience the latest pieces in person and see how the brand continues to evolve its distinctive design language.
GJ Edit: Pay particular attention to proportion and comfort — two qualities that are difficult to fully appreciate through imagery alone.
Craft x Tech — Tokai Project
What: An exhibition bringing traditional Japanese craft together with contemporary international design.
Where: V&A Museum, Cromwell Rd, South Kensington, SW7 2RL
Why: The project pairs established craft processes with contemporary designers, exploring how centuries of material knowledge can be reinterpreted without losing its integrity or relevance.
GJ Edit: Look beyond the finished objects to the techniques behind them — this is as much about process and material intelligence as it is about design.
Thai Ping
What: Icons Underfoot - New Collection
Where: Brompton Design District, 117–119 Fulham Road, SW3 6RL
Why: Known for exceptional handcrafted carpets, Tai Ping sits at the intersection of art, material and architecture. Icons Underfoot makes this a particularly worthwhile stop for anyone interested in craftsmanship, texture and bespoke interior details
GJ Edit: Take time to look closely at the construction and colour transitions — the craftsmanship is best understood in person.
YDF Showroom
What: Design destination bringing together more than 100 international interiors brands, and there will be talks through out of the week that can be booked via Instagram
Where: 70 Brompton Road, Knightsbridge, SW3 1ER
Why: More than a traditional showroom, YDF combines furniture, lighting, materials, bespoke collections and extensive sample libraries with talks, events and industry connections.
GJ Edit: Allow time to explore beyond familiar names — with so many brands under one roof, this is a particularly useful stop for discovering new suppliers and materials.
Focus/26: where the interiors industry meets
14–18 September 2026 · Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour
Focus has 135+ showrooms and 30+ pop-up House Guests, and the organisers specifically say some participating brands do not exhibit anywhere else in the UK, with new collections debuting there. Entry is free.

Pierre Frey — Textiles & Wallcoverings
What: Discover the AW26 collections, including Sequana II, Solstice and Natecru Textures N°4.
Where: 1st Floor, Design Centre East, Chelsea Harbour, Lots Road, SW10 0XE
Why: A chance to explore exceptional textiles, wallcoverings and rugs, with a particular focus on materiality, colour and craftsmanship.
GJ Edit: Look at the combinations, not just individual fabrics — how texture, pattern and colour can create a cohesive interior.
Hector Finch — Lighting
What: Discover the British lighting studio’s 2026 collection, featuring new pendants, lanterns and wall lights.
Where: 3rd Floor, Design Centre East, Chelsea Harbour, Lots Road, SW10 0XF
Why: An opportunity to experience the quality of light, finishes and proportions in person, and explore how decorative lighting can shape an interior.
GJ Edit: Understated lighting where proportion and craftsmanship do the talking.
Alexander Lamont & Miles — Craft & Materials
What: Explore specialist materials, decorative surfaces and artisanal furniture.
Where: 2nd Floor, South Dome, Design Centre Chelsea Harbour, Lots Road, SW10 0XE
Why: A chance to discover exceptional craftsmanship and material techniques, from refined finishes to sculptural furniture and decorative objects.
GJ Edit: Look closely at the finishes — the depth, texture and craftsmanship are often best appreciated in person.
Shoreditch Design Week: the one to watch
15–20 September 2026 · Shoreditch
More experimental and less predictable, Shoreditch is where we'd go to discover new materials, emerging designers and ideas that haven't yet become familiar. This year brings together independent showrooms with several curated exhibitions across the district.
If you can, visit on Wednesday 16 September. The main exhibitions stay open until 9 pm, giving you considerably more time to explore without rushing between venues. Entry is free, although a visitor badge is required for the exhibitions.

Material Matters — Materials & Innovation
What: Explore the future of materials, from bio-based alternatives to innovative surfaces and circular design.
Where: UNLOCKED Shoreditch, 118 Curtain Road, EC2A 3PJ
Why: A chance to discover new materials and processes, including Biomason’s bacteria-grown Mimmik Tile™ and Carbon Cell’s alternative to plastic foams.
GJ Edit: Go looking for materials you haven’t specified before — and consider how they might change the way we design.
House of ICON — Contemporary Interiors
What: Discover contemporary interiors, including 2LG Studio’s Messy Heart, Isola Design and Raw Collaborative’s Design Intelligentsia.
Where: Shoreditch Town Hall, 380 Old Street, EC1V 9LT
Why: A chance to explore furniture, lighting and collectible design, bringing together emerging makers and established names across a wide range of styles.
GJ Edit: Leave time to wander; discovery is the point.
ND Selects — Emerging Designers
What: A curated showcase of independent design businesses in their first one to five years, featuring furniture, ceramics and contemporary objects.
Where: Kachette, 347 Old Street, EC1V 9LP
Why: An opportunity to discover the next generation of British design talent, including This is Oink, Rosie May Ceramics and Phil Berczuk Design.
GJ Edit: One to visit before everyone knows their names.
Open House London: the city behind the doors
Open House Festival offers a rare opportunity to explore London’s architecture from the inside. Across all 33 boroughs, remarkable homes, historic buildings, contemporary spaces and neighbourhoods open their doors, revealing the stories, design decisions and people behind the city’s built environment.
GJ Tip: Explore the programme by neighbourhood and choose a few buildings that genuinely interest you. All events are free, but some require advance booking or entry through a ballot, so check the details before planning your visit. Explore the official programme here.
GJ’s Curated Selection for Open House
Segmental House — Heritage & Contemporary Living
What: A Grade II listed Victorian townhouse, sensitively renovated and extended by Dominic McKenzie Architects, with bespoke brickwork, Douglas fir panelling and a carefully considered kitchen and pantry.
Where: 24 Albert Square, London SW8 1DA.
Why: A particularly relevant project for GJ, showing how contemporary architecture, bespoke joinery and material choices can sit comfortably alongside historic character.
GJ Edit: Look at how the new and old are connected — and how the quieter details, from timber panelling to concealed storage, make the home feel both refined and liveable.
Visit: Sunday 13 September, 10 am–5 pm. Drop-in.
A House within a House — Reimagining the Victorian Home
What: An award-winning refurbishment by David Leech Architects, connecting two flats to create a family home within a late Victorian townhouse.
Where: 27AB Belsize Crescent, London NW3 5QY.
Why: An inspiring example of how an existing property can be reconfigured to improve light, circulation and everyday living while respecting its architectural history.
GJ Edit: Pay attention to the transitions between rooms and levels — how architectural decisions can create a sense of generosity, character and calm without relying on decoration alone.
Visit: 16 September. Architect-led tours run from 1 pm to 4.30 pm; advance booking is required.
Tin House — Architecture, Light & Privacy
What: A distinctive home by Henning Stummel Architects, formed from interconnected, top-lit pavilions arranged around a private courtyard.
Where: Smugglers Yard, 105 Devonport Road, London W12 8PB.
Why: A chance to experience how an unconventional urban site can become a peaceful, light-filled home through thoughtful spatial planning and a strong connection between architecture and outdoor space.
GJ Edit: Look at how the courtyard, rooflights and sequence of rooms create privacy and atmosphere — a reminder that the quality of a home begins with the way space is organised.
Visit: Saturday 12 September, 10 am–1 pm.

Talks, workshops, launches and intimate showroom events can have limited capacity. Once you've chosen your must-see events, check whether registration is required rather than relying on availability on the day.

LDF is an opportunity to meet designers, makers and brands in person. If you're an industry professional, introduce yourself, ask questions and exchange details — those conversations can be just as valuable as the exhibitions themselves.

Make it Focus/26. With 135+ showrooms, House Guests and new autumn launches in one destination, it offers the greatest concentration of interior design under one roof.
If you have 2 days
Spend one day at Focus/26 and one in Shoreditch. You'll experience two very different sides of London design: established international houses in Chelsea and emerging designers, independent showrooms and material innovation in East London.
If you have 3 days
Add a day to explore the wider London Design Festival. Rather than crossing the entire city, choose one or two of its 11 Design Districts and explore them properly.
If you have 3+ days
Add a day for the wider London Design Festival, choosing one or two districts to explore properly. Brompton is particularly worthwhile for furniture, materials and showroom launches, while the V&A offers a different perspective through exhibitions and installations. If you have additional time, make room for Open House — an opportunity to experience London’s architecture from the inside and discover how exceptional homes respond to heritage, light and everyday living.
