London Design Events 2026: The GJ Interior Design Studio Guide to What’s Worth Seeing This September
From Focus/26 at Chelsea Harbour and Open House London to the wider London Design Festival, including Shoreditch Design Week, our considered edit of the exhibitions, showrooms, launches, architecture and emerging names worth making time for.
Every September, London becomes a meeting point for the international design community.
For nine days, the city shifts into a network of exhibitions, showroom launches, installations, conversations and new collections — stretching from Chelsea Harbour to Shoreditch and across London's established design districts.
London Design Festival returns from 12–20 September 2026, bringing together established design houses, emerging studios, makers and material innovators from around the world. Alongside it, Focus/26 takes over Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour, while Shoreditch Design Week brings a distinctly different energy to East London.
With so much happening simultaneously, deciding what is genuinely worth seeing can be more difficult than finding something to see.
This is our considered edit of London Design Festival 2026 — where we're going, what we're watching and the places we believe deserve a little more time.
Understanding London Design Festival
London Design Festival is the wider city-wide festival, running 12–20 September 2026. Its official programme spans installations, showrooms, product launches, talks, workshops and trade/consumer events. The 2026 programme currently identifies 11 design districts, including Brompton, Mayfair, Chelsea, Bankside, Soho and Shoreditch Design Week.

London Design Festival: our wider edit
Beyond the major design destinations, London Design Festival unfolds across the city through a programme of exhibitions, installations, showroom presentations and conversations. With so much taking place simultaneously, the challenge is less about finding something to see and more about deciding where to spend your time.
Rather than attempting to cover everything, we've selected six events that have caught our attention for 2026 — each offering a different perspective on materiality, craftsmanship, colour and contemporary living.
Focus/26: where the interiors industry meets
14–18 September 2026 · Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour
Focus has 135+ showrooms and 30+ pop-up House Guests, and the organisers specifically say some participating brands do not exhibit anywhere else in the UK, with new collections debuting there. Entry is free.

Shoreditch Design Week: the one to watch
15–20 September 2026 · Shoreditch
More experimental and less predictable, Shoreditch is where we'd go to discover new materials, emerging designers and ideas that haven't yet become familiar. This year brings together independent showrooms with several curated exhibitions across the district.
If you can, visit on Wednesday 16 September. The main exhibitions stay open until 9 pm, giving you considerably more time to explore without rushing between venues. Entry is free, although a visitor badge is required for the exhibitions.

Open House London: the city behind the doors
Open House Festival offers a rare opportunity to explore London’s architecture from the inside. Across all 33 boroughs, remarkable homes, historic buildings, contemporary spaces and neighbourhoods open their doors, revealing the stories, design decisions and people behind the city’s built environment.
GJ Tip: Explore the programme by neighbourhood and choose a few buildings that genuinely interest you. All events are free, but some require advance booking or entry through a ballot, so check the details before planning your visit. Explore the official programme here.

Book key events in advance
Talks, workshops, launches and intimate showroom events can have limited capacity. Once you've chosen your must-see events, check whether registration is required rather than relying on availability on the day.
Make time to connect
LDF is an opportunity to meet designers, makers and brands in person. If you're an industry professional, introduce yourself, ask questions and exchange details — those conversations can be just as valuable as the exhibitions themselves.

Look beyond the permanent showrooms. Focus/26’s House Guests bring together a curated selection of visiting brands and designers, making them a particularly good place for new discoveries.
The GJ Interior Design Studio Itinerary
If you have 1 day
Make it Focus/26. With 135+ showrooms, House Guests and new autumn launches in one destination, it offers the greatest concentration of interior design under one roof.
If you have 2 days
Spend one day at Focus/26 and one in Shoreditch. You'll experience two very different sides of London design: established international houses in Chelsea and emerging designers, independent showrooms and material innovation in East London.
If you have 3 days
Add a day to explore the wider London Design Festival. Rather than crossing the entire city, choose one or two of its 11 Design Districts and explore them properly.
If you have 3+ days
Add a day for the wider London Design Festival, choosing one or two districts to explore properly. Brompton is particularly worthwhile for furniture, materials and showroom launches, while the V&A offers a different perspective through exhibitions and installations. If you have additional time, make room for Open House — an opportunity to experience London’s architecture from the inside and discover how exceptional homes respond to heritage, light and everyday living.
